About European Forestry Academic Society (EFAS)

The European Forestry Academic Society was established by the Council of European Foresters on December 4, 2017 in the C.E.F. Board Meeting in Antalya, Turkey.

According C.E.F. Board Resolution of December 4, 2017 the E.F.A.S. Members can be the elite forestry specialists with remarkable performances in sustainable forestry management and applied the best forestry research, can be the outstanding representatives and important personalities of forestry faculties, forestry universities and forestry research institutions, and can be the prestigious representatives of forestry institutions and organizations that have outstanding results in sustaining and promoting at national or international level the rights and duties of foresters foreseen in the Forester’ s Declaration of August 25, 2011 launched by the Council of European Foresters.

Also, according to C.E.F. Board Resolution of December 4, 2017 the European Forestry Academic Society has its own Rules of Organization and Functioning and has autonomy in its activity.

E.F.A.S. has the role:

  • of supporting and developing the objectives and activity of C.E.F. at the level of the U.N., Council of Europe and European Union Institutions;
  • to promote and participate in projects initiated by organizations, countries or international institutions for the forestry sector;
  • to organize training, information or improvement courses for foresters, forest owners, forest managers and other categories of beneficiaries.

The current President of E.F.A.S. is Prof.dr. Milan Medarevic, Serbia.

Rules of Organization and Functioning of the European Forestry Academic Society (E.F.A.S.)

I. The European Forestry Academic Society (E.F.A.S.) is part of the Council of European Foresters (C.E.F.)andincludesthe followingcategoriesof personalities:

  • elite forestry specialists with remarkable performances in sustainable forest management and applied forestry research;
  • representatives and important personalities of forestry faculties, forestry universities and forestry research institutions;
  • prestigious leaders of forestry institutions and organizations that have outstanding results in sustaining and promoting at national or international level the rights and duties of foresters foreseen in the Forester Statement from 2011 launched by the Council of European Foresters.

 

The European Forestry Academic Society has its own logo and has autonomy in its activity.

II. European Forestry Academic Society has the role:

  • of supporting and developing the objectives and activity of C.E.F. at the level of the U.N., Council of Europe and European Union institutions;
  • to promote and participate in projects initiated by organizations, countries or international institutions for forestry sector;
  • to organize training, information or improvement courses for foresters, forest owners, forest managers and other categories of beneficiaries;
  • to organize symposiums, exchanges of experience or other professional or scientific events on forestry issues.

III. The establishment of the European Forestry Academic Society as part of the Council of European Foresters is made through the Resolution of the Board of Council of European Foresters.

IV. The Board of the European Forestry Academic Society consists of Honour Presidents, a President, Vice-presidents and other Board Members. The C.E.F. Board elects the E.F.A.S. President every three years. The elected E.F.A.S. President submits to the vote of the C.E.F. Board Members the list of proposals (from the representatives of the C.E.F. member organizations) with the nominations for E.F.A.S. Members and the nominationsfor E.F.A.S. Board Members (E.F.A.S. Honor Presidents, E.F.A.S. Vice-Presidents, E.F.A.S. Board members). All nominations for members of E.F.A.S. will be accompanied by the Curriculum Vitae of those nominated.

The mandate for all E.F.A.S. Board Members is three years.

V. Confirmation of the membership of the European Forestry Academic Society is made by a Certificate issued by C.E.F. and E.F.A.S.

VI. E.F.A.S. Board has the following attributes:

E.F.A.S. Board awards the following distinctions:

  • Diploma of Merit and the Honor “FIDELIS SILVARUM” – to the personalities with special professional merits in the forestry sector and to support the activity of C.E.F. and E.F.A.S.;
  • Diploma of Excellence and the Honor “FIDELIS SILVARUM” – to the personalities who have performed exceptionally activity in the forestry science, in the forestry research sector and to the personalities who, through their decision can contribute to the sustainable management of the forests and the forestry sector by developing forest strategies and forest policies at national or international level;
  • E.F.A.S. Board can establish the E.F.A.S. Centers for Forestry Conference and Training;
  • E.F.A.S. Board can organize E.F.A.S. activity and E.F.A.S. manifestations;
  • E.F.A.S. Board can have cooperation relations with forestry personalities and institutes from other countries in Europe and countries of other continents and can award them Diploma of Merit or Diploma of Excellence.

VII. The membership of the European Forestry Academic Society implies the membership of C.E.F.

VIII. Meetings of the Board of European Forestry Academic Society are convened by the President of this Society who also proposes the agenda of the meeting.

IX. The resolutions of the Board of the European Forestry Academic Society are taken by majority vote and posted on the C.E.F. website.

X. The European Forestry Academic Society is open to cooperate with foresters, forestry institutions and forestry organizations from Europe and other continents, granting the membership of this society to personalities that bring prestige to the European Forestry Academic Society, implicitly to the Council of European Foresters.
